NEWSLETTER, AGM, ANNUAL REPORT AND TUTORS MEETING

Newsletter - The June Newsletter has been emailed and we hope to have the hard copy posted this week, depending on the availablility of volunteers. This time the email copy has gone out in Word rather than PDF. Our original thought was that sending in PDF would enable a faster down load time however, we believe that the difference is very small so we have reverted to a Word document. We would appreciate any feedback.

AGM - Within the Newsletter is the formal announcement of the AGM to be held on the Wednesday 16 July next. It will be held at the Avalon Pavilion starting at 2 PM with the Guest Speaker to be Grant Sidaway. The Annual Report is also almost ready to be sent.

Tutors Meeting - A Tutors Meeting will be held this Friday from 9 AM - 12.30PM at the Lower Hutt Womens Bowling Club.

SADLY OUR SECRETARY HAS RESIGNED

Sadly Louisa who has been our Secretary for several years has had to resign.
So we are looking for someone to take her place. An email has been sent asking for a volunteer and an advice will be in the June Newsletter.

We urgently need someone to fill this position.

Louisa says the jobs is easy; with the basic duties being:

Taking applications from the public
Sending emails to Tutors and members
Liaising with chairman and administration staff.
Assist with AGM & various meetings as required.
General Secretarial duties
- The usual typing – the odd letters and ensuring forms are updated.

The Secretary is a member of the Executive Committee and would need to attend the monthly meeting.

FEDERATION NEWSLETTER

Some highlights from the latest Federation Newsletter are :

The AGM, held in Wellington on the 7th May, re-elected all the current Committee except for the Wellington area where Colin Young replaced Brian Nelson who did not stand. The Minutes and associated documents are available on the Federation Website.

SNAP - Thanks were extended to Hutt City and the authors etc for the provision of this program which has been requested by two thirds of member Centres.

Contact details - Because of Spam only an address and phone numbers will be shown on the Website in future.

Telstra Group sponsorship - this is growing and members are reminded to register through their Centres.

Funding - After a lot of hard work over many months an agreement has finally been signed with the TEC which secures funding for the remainder of 2008 . However, more changes means the Federation will need to complete another Investment Plan for funding in 2009 and beyond.

NEW VERSION OF FREE AVG

Grisoft, the company who produce the free AVG anti-virus are currently introducing a new version - Version 8.

Although it remains free, it can be hard to locate the free version on the Grisoft site. Therefore we suggest you go to http://free.grisoft.com to obtain the free version. It can still take a bit of care to ensure you are in fact downloading the free version. Also they will ask you to download the AVG toolbar - we suggest you don't by unticking this option.

You may notice that after installing the new Version 8, every email you receive shows a paperclip indicating that an attachement is present, although in fact it isn't. This is called a Ghost Attachment which is caused by AVG certifying the email has been checked.

When you download an email you will find something along the lines of "No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus."

To do away with this Ghost Attachment just turn off the email certification. Messages will still be scanned but the attachment glitch will not occur. To do this go to the AVG control centre, click on "E-mail scanner", select the "properties" button, then deselect "certify mail".

CHANGE OF EMAIL ADDRESS

We have changed our email address. It has now been linked to our website address.

Our new address, which we ask you to put in your Address Book today, is now -

This will enable us to have a more relevant address that easily and quickly communicates what we are about. You will notice that it is aligned to the domain name of our website. Although in the short term the old address will continue to operate, it will in due course be deleted.

FEDERATION AGM AND TUTORS BRIEFING

FEDERATION AGM: Four of your Committee, along with about 25 others from around the country, attended the Federation AGM last Wednesday. It was an excellent presentation, due in the main to the quality of those on the Executive Committee. They are simply an outstanding group. Colin Young from Porirua Learning Centre was elected as our Regional Representative.

We of course have the Chairman's Report, Balance Sheet and other information, which any member is welcome to read should they wish to do so. Just ask a member of the Committee.

TUTORS BRIEFING: This was held today and a couple of changes have been instituted to make it easier. In future the Demographics, required for the TEC, will be incorporated into the membership application. This means in 12 months or so we shouldn't have to get the Tutors to get this information at all. Also the attendance records sheet each Tutor used to get has been replaced by a combined class list clipboard.

FEDERATION NEWS

The Federation has produced its Annual Report in preparation for the AGM to be held next month. Some information and statistics are:

The Federation returned $20-00 for each $1-00 invested by its member societies
85 Centres are in the Federation (2 closed and one new Centre started up)
13 Regional Meetings were held, all attended by Grant
5 Regional Training sessions were facilitated by Grant
Federation Website attracts an average of 64 visits per day
Over a 1/4 of a million dollars was distributed to Learning Centres
5383 inward and 7919 outward emails were actioned by the Federation
3853 inward Freephone calls were received, totalling nearly 13,000 minutes
Over 60 Centres took up the discounted Insurance offer resulting in total savings of $15,000 plus
22,410 enrolments were received from 10,316 members
Around 63% of Learning Centre members took a Course during the year
(It should be noted that these figures do not include Centres that did not make any funding claims)

Overall it is an impressive result.

VIRUS HOAX USING SENIORNET'S NAME

A virus hoax called the 'Postcard' with all the usual hallmarks of -

Capital Letters

Send it to everybody you know

Quotes names of major firms without full details (dates, websites) etc
Quotes 'verified by Norton' or other anti-virus firms

Sends without BCC

is circulating.

Although the basic premise and wording of this hoax has been around for a number of years, with the name of the Virus changing on a regular basis, it has now added SeniorNets name to the list of verifying organisations.

We know our members will not be fooled but we reiterate : -

If you receive an email from a 'friend' with any hoax of this type please tell them in no uncertain terms of your views and how they are just helping to spread spam and aiding the virus writers.

The Annual Subscriptions are now due and have been posted this week. It was decided that although there was an extra cost in mailing, rather than use email, we thought it was more likely that people would renew with a written reminder.

We encourage you all to mail them back as soon as possible.We will of course follow up as the year progresses with reminders in the Newsletter.

End of Term 1: This has come to an end with a very satisfactory enrolment rate. Now is the time to enrol for next term. Behind the scenes we are all very busy revising the Manuals and carrying out all the usual housekeeping functions.

NEW START DATE TERM 2 AND SNAP

TERM 2 - CHANGE OF START DATE

Unfortunately we have had to move the start date for Term 2 out by one week.

The new Term 2 dates are now May 12 - July 4

This has been caused by a shortage of Tutors for the first week of the original start date. We are sorry to have had to do this, but it is a good reason why you should volunteer to be a Tutor. It is not hard. You start off as an Assistant Tutor and you will never find yourself overwhelmed as help is always at hand. You can not only help us and your fellow members, but you will find it is enjoyable and you will learn so much more.

SNAP - SeniorNet Administration Program. SNAP is a user-friendly administration database program designed by our own Brian Thomas assisted by the other members of the Hutt City Technical Team.

It has been specifically designed to meet the administration needs of SeniorNet Learning Centres using Microsoft Access. SNAP is the system we have been using at Hutt City for a number of years. It provides for the administration of membership matters, scheduling of courses, allocation of members to courses, it produces reports, including invoices and associated information required by the Federation. One of its main features is that data is entered only once and actions are initiated by clicking buttons.
Short demonstrations of preliminary versions of SNAP have been given at recent Regional Meetings.

As Grant Sidaway said in releasing the details to the Federation Clubs " We are most grateful to SeniorNet Hutt City for the work they have done in creating this system. In particular Brian Thomas and Geoff Honey for the many hours of detailed work they have put into the engineering of SNAP. They needed to customise the system which they had developed for the Hutt City Learning Centre four years ago.

Considerable checking of SNAP’s functions has taken place since December 2007, by Ian Turner and Ray MacDonald using actual data from their Learning Centres. They also put in many hours of effort to ensure SNAP is easy to use and workable. How much does it cost?

A conservative estimate to create SNAP for us by a commercial organisation would be $30,000. In keeping with the spirit of SeniorNet, SeniorNet Hutt City and the authors of SNAP are making the program available to Federation Learning Centres for $5.00 to cover production of the CD and postage. "

LATEST NEWSLETTER

The latest Newsletter and our first email edition was sent to members and 89 other SeniorNet Learning Centres yesterday.

We have asked members if they could confirm by return email that they have received it, and also if they have any feedback. The paper copy will probably be despatched this weekend - the timing depends on getting a couple of volunteers to do the enveloping. If you are on email and receive a paper copy, please let us know as we can save some money, as well as time and energy, by adding you to our email database.

Again if you are unable to open it (it is in PDF format) please let us know as we will send you a 'Word" version.

Returned emails: We have already had some bounced. Our current stance is that we will not contact you to obtain your address, unless we can get somebody to volunteer to do the job. Nor will we post it out as we have already had the labels and the Newsletter printed to match the number of those not on email.

TERM 1 - UPDATE

Term 1 - Update - What a turnaround. Following the advertisement and the Open Day we had a lot of late enrolments and enquiries. Although this did cause us a lot of extra work, at the time of 'blogging' we have over 90 students, so it has turned out quite well in the end.

The new Computer Skills 8 week course is now underway and we are looking for feedback from both Tutors and students.

Federation News - The Federation Committee is elected for a two year term with half elected in alternative years. With this being the first year of operation, half of the current Committee will retire now, after one year in the job. New elections will be held for these shortly and as it happens our Region drew the short straw so our 'seat' becomes vacant. However, our Representative Brian Nelson has decided not to stand again. This system allows for some continuity.

Our first ever Open Day was held today. It was a great success with about 40 vistors. The morning session was particularly busy, so much so, that we actually ran short of people to attend to those calling in to see what we had on offer. A couple of photos of the set up in Room 1 are below.

FEDERATION NEWSLETTER JAN 2008

We have received the latest Newsletter from the Federation. The main points are summarised below; should any member want a copy of the full version, please email us.

The Federation committee had its first meeting for

2008 on 23rd January in Wellington.

The meeting was informed of the recent positive meetings held with the T.E.C. prior to Christmas and earlier this month.

A good outcome has resulted with the T.E.C. approving further funding for 2008 and they have been instructed by Government to engage with other crown funding agencies for additional funds. The agreed intention is for the Federation/Learning Centres to have a stable funding platform equal to 50% of the total annual operating cost of Learning Centres and the National Office.

The committee has decided to maintain the $2.05 rate for 2008.

The Federation requires us to complete a questionnaire so it can prepare a report of its activities in 2007 and to enable it to have information for planning and negotiating purposes.

The Federation has contracted Grant to make 40 visits to Learning Centres in 2008 along with attending Regional Meetings and Tutor Training Days.

CHRISTMAS FUNCTION

The first members Christmas function was held today with about 100 attending. We thank those who came, the guy in the red suit (thanks Noel), those who contributed towards the spot prizes as well as the organisers with special thanks to Raewyn.

We hope it will become an annual event.

While all this has been going on, the background people, particularly the Technical Team, have continued their hard work. They have, after overcoming various impediments, finally obtained the Vista/Office 2007 Suite and are now busy with installation and moving the PC's in Room 1 to a dual boot system to manage our XP-Vista requirements. They have also been writing/testing the new Computer Skills Course and demonstrating our Database plus other aspects of our operations and systems such as VNC, to Upper Hutt SeniorNet.

NEWSLETTER CHANGES

The latest Newsletter has been posted and in it we advise a major change. From now on we will send out our Newsletter by email. With over 80% now on email this will save us money, let us send out a more timely version and importantly enable more efficient use of our resources (volunteers) as one of our ongoing problems has been getting enough people to
volunteer to send out the Newsletter.
We will meantime contine to have a print copy for those not on email but a hard copy is expensive and time consuming.

As it is our volunteers who keep the Centre going we would like to THANK YOU all for your help and support during the year.

Another year end is fast approaching with our classes finishing this week. We thank all those who have helped us during the year as your work has been invaluable. We also thank our students - we hope you enjoyed yourself.

EXPO REPORT AND COURSE VACANCIES EMAIL

The Seniors Expo in Wellington has been and gone and we thank the volunteers who helped us over the weekend. Although the attendance, due probably to some competing functions being held at the same time, was not as good as we would have wanted, it was still worthwhile. We appreciate Grown Ups and the Federation for giving us the opportunity to spread the word about SeniorNet.

THE 50+ LIFESTYLE EXPO

Following on from the recent Hutt City expo another much larger one is to be held at the Overseas Terminal, Chaffers Marina, Oriental Parade Wellington on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October. It will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM each day.

Members from Hutt City will be assisting at a SeniorNet NZ display which is being organised in conjuction with Grownups. There will be over 100 exhibits catering for the 50 + age group including a section where visitors can get a free health check. The Entrance Fee is $7-00.

If you are able to help for say 3 hours on any day please email the Centre.

The annual Hutt City Health & Wellbeing Expo is to be held on MONDAY 24 SEPTEMBER at the Horticultural Hall/Hutt Town Hall in Laings Road starting at 10 AM and finishing at 3 PM.

Naturally SeniorNet will be there and it will be an action packed day with over 50 stalls, demonstrations, spot prizes, entertainment, displays, free tea and coffee. Best of all entrance is FREE!!!

ANOTHER XTRA BUBBLE UPDATE

The registration is now available.
Some tips are -

Don't download the software unless you particularly want to. When speaking to Telecom they think it still has "bugs".

A window may come up re a Chat program. The only way you can get rid of it is to click on the "continue" button and when a couple of other windows appear close them.

You will then get the new Webmail interface. Click on the Spam folder then go through the Spam and tick as not Spam the emails you find that you want. They will then be able to be downloaded as usual when you go back to your Outlook Express. Don't forget to "empty" the spam folder otherwise you will have to read the same stuff the next day.

How long this procedure has to be followed we are trying to find out but getting an answer is proving almost impossible.

ADVICE RE XTRA AND BUBBLE

Xtra is in the throes of "upgrading" its email service to align itself with Yahoo. You will have heard and read that all did not go according to plan. However, members who have an Xtra account must register under the new Bubble facility - there is no option not to do so. Although currently you are unable register, due to the technical problems, Telecom say they will probably be fixed within a few days and you will then be able to join.

An important point is that if you want to access your account via Webmail you do not now click the Webmail link. This will only take you to your Yahoo account - you have to click the Bubble link - but of course this will only work once you have registered the Bubble facility.
So the new web address for Xtra is now http://nz.yahoo.com and you click the Yahoo!Xtra Bubble link not the Webmail link which will take you to Yahoo.

Term 3 is half way through. Our Trade Me course has begun and in a couple of weeks time we will be calling for “Blogging” students. Of course, the ‘Chairman’ will be back from his Overseas holiday and keen to get back into teaching the course!

Next Month – Monday 24th September, we will be taking part in the Health & Wellbeing Expo to be held at the Town Hall. Please note this in your diary now as we understand there will be double the number of stalls this year.

Last month, Porirua SeniorNet hosted a Tutor Workshop on four topics – Skype – Blogging – Vista – and Movie Making. Keep an eye on our Course list for the introduction of these courses.

TERM THREE

Term 3 will be starting next Monday with the Tutors Briefing to be held this Thursday. Sadly this Term is a new low in students as, at this stage, we will be lucky to have 60 registrations. Yet on the other hand, because we are unable to obtain tutors to teach when some students can attend, we cannot run some classes!! This is the reason we must have a very large Tutor base.

Our team of 6 Tutors plus one speaker will be attending the Regional Tutors Workshop on the 25th at Porirua. Remarkably two tutors are coming all the way from Canterbury.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD

Our 8th AGM was held today with an excellent turnout of around 80 people. This year saw two new members added to the committee. With two guest speakers this year meant two interesting talks - one from Brian Nelson about the Federation and Tyrone Coupland giving us an overview, particularly on the political aspects, on blogging.

Annual General Meeting - As advised in the June Newsletter we would appreciate those who intend to attend to please let us know as soon as possible either by 'phone or email. Remember it will be held at the Avalon Pavilion starting at 2 PM on Wednesday 4 July. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Apart from the formal procedures it is a great chance to have a get together and chat.

Regional Tutors Meeting - We had a keen interest in this first ever Regional Workshop. Unfortunately, we have now been advised that our allocation of places has had to be cut back to 6 which meant some who applied have missed out. It was decided attendance would be on a first come first served basis but those who did miss out this time will go to the top of the list for the next workshop.

Term 2 is now underway with, as usual, many students signing up at the last moment which does put a tremendous strain on our administration people. However, it did mean that once again the century mark of students taking classes was achieved.

Unfortunately, we did have a problem during the week with our Internet connection not working for several hours meaning one class had to have their lesson off line

But our ever efficient Technical Team solved the problem in time for the next days classes.

NEW BLOGGING FOR SENIORS COURSE

Raewyn and Wayne have now finished writing a new Course - Blogging for Seniors. This is a $20-00 two week (4 hour) Course using Blogger. Although blogging is easy and great fun, students must have reasonable Word Processing and Internet skills. Additionally, before taking the Course every student has to have a valid email address to use as a Log In (we recommend using Gmail or Yahoo) as well as a couple of names to call their blog. Some back up names are required in case the original choice has been taken.

Actual Course dates and times have yet to be established but we intend to put out an email shortly requesting members to apply for the Course. However, any member reading this blog who is interested in applying for the Course is asked to email us with Blogging Course in the subject line.

FLASH DRIVES AVAILABLE FOR CLASSES

As from next term we will have 2 Flash Drives available for each teaching room. This will mean when the manual instructs to save to a portable device (Floppy Disk, burn to a CD etc) then our Tutors will have the option to show students the Flash Drive option. Members will see that there is a message on the Notice Board about purchasing Flash Drives at a very reasonable price. You will also notice that they have halved in price over the past few months!

WELLINGTON REGION FEDERATION MEETING AND NEW TRADE ME COURSE

2007 Federation Wellington Regional Meeting - A meeting of the Wellington Region Federation member clubs will be hosted by us between 9.30 and 4.30 on Friday 18 May at the Avalon Pavilion . As we get closer to the date we will be asking members to volunteer to assist us with the planning as well as the proceedings on the day.

Trade Me - A new two week Course on this has been written by Jeanette and Raewyn. They have started teaching it this week to five of our tutors and it will be available from Term 2. At a cost of $20-00 (usual discounts apply of course) we believe it will prove very popular. So if you are interested in putting your name down to do the Course next Term please email us. TUTORS BRIEFING TERM 1

We had a very successful tutors briefing where we updated the tutors attending on various matters. These included the Federation, forms to be completed for this Terms students, premises, VNC, new Trade Me Course, Regional Meeting, Tutor Worshop, Telecom sponsorship etc.

It was a very good morning that was well attended and we now all look forward to the start of classes on 12 February.

JANUARY COMMITTEE MEETING NEWS

At our January Committee meeting we formally resolved to join the Federation of New Zealand SeniorNet Societies Inc. (FNZSS). The inaugural meeting of the Federation Committee has been held and the Interim office holders elected. A capitation fee of $1-00 per club member has been set.

We have had a 4 hour Trade Me course written and it will cost $20-00. Tutors will of course be able to attend for the usual 50% discount. Our intention is to try and run one Course towards the end of Term 1.
It was also decided that laptops should not be brought to classes and used by students for their lessons. Unfortunately experience has revealed teaching difficulties arise with this option due to compatibility of software.

2007 UNDERWAY

Term 1 classes for 2007 will start on 12 February and class times have been advised to the Tutors involved. Enrolments are being finalised and class lists will be advised as soon as possible. The usual Tutor briefings will held on Thursday 8 February commencing at intervals of one hour with the first session at 9AM. An email advising the Briefing date was sent recently.

We shall be running our normal pre-term advertisement in the Hutt News next week.

National Body - Three of our our people attended a Regional meeting in Porirua this week as we continued our progress towards the formation of a National Organisation. At the meeting Brian Nelson of the Waikanae/Otaki club was elected our Regional Representative.

Telecom Sponsorship - Telecom NZ, who have supported every SeniorNet since its commencement in N.Z. over 10 years ago, has decided to cease it sponsorship. We thank them for their support over the years.

Newsletter - This will be posted to members this week.

Tutors Xmas morning tea - We will be holding our usual "thank you" morning tea for our tutors and support staff next Wednesday.

The Committee thank all those who have helped us in what has been a most difficult year and wishes every member best wishes for the Christmas Season and trust you all have a happy and enjoyable 2007. THE FEDERATION OF N.Z. SENIORNET SOCIETIES INC.

After numerous drafts the Constitution of the above Society is about to be registered with SeniorNet Hutt City being one of the signatories. Your Committee, after much debate, decided to join with many other SeniorNets throughout the country in supporting the formation of a national organisation. Although some Clubs will not be joining, we consider the case for doing so is convincing and inevitable and can only be of benefit to our Club. We believe the discussion is similar to the lengthy process we went through whether or not to align ourselves with Aoraki. In the end it was probably the best desicion we made and we are now saddened that the relationship has beeen ended by Government decision. But we mustn't look back - we can only look forward. We will keep you informed through this Blog and our Website.

UPDATES FROM YOUR COMMITTEE

Aoraki - Sadly, due to Government decisions, the assistance we have received and the relationship with Aoraki has come to an end. Consequently, the various facilities we were able to enjoy, including funding and the Freephone Helpline, have now ceased.

Repeat Courses - Free repeats for students who were members of Aoraki was introduced as much of the costs were covered by them. However, with the demise of Aoraki funding, the Committee has determined that as from the first term of 2007 the following will apply to those who wish to repeat a class -

“Students wishing to repeat courses may do so within 2 terms, and on payment of 50% of the original Course Fee, with a minimum payment of $10”

National Body - Over the past several months the consideration of establishing a National Body has been discussed throughout the country. This is a very complex and significant step with many reasons for and against. However, subject to finalisation of the terms, your Committee after much consideration, believes the concept should be supported.

We have been too busy with the new premises to produce a Newsletter recently but will have an edition out for your Xmas reading.

WE'RE IN AT LAST - AND GOING WELL!

We have moved in - all bar the little tasks have been completed. The Rooms were ready in time for Term 3 and the students are giving positive feedback and the first week has gone well.

We all look forward to the kitchen facilities being made available, meantime, we ask the members to bear with us with our temporary arrangements.

Unfortunately Edith Malloy, who has been our office Manager for the past 3 years has had to resign from the position, and in true SeniorNet style we have already found a willing volunteer in Joan Scott. Thank you Edith and Joan.

TERM 3 AND PREMISES UPDATE

A lot of hard work is going on at the Centre - walls are being built, electrics installed, painting and plastering being done etc. On top of all this our Tech Team are also hard at work updating all our software and virus protection. So the good news is that we are on target to meet our completion date to start Term 3 on 31 July.

2006 AGM FRIDAY 7 JULY

We had an incredible turnout of over 100 people at the AGM - so many that we ran out of chairs!!

Members were told that present planning is for next term to start on Monday 31 July.

Other matters covered included the new premises, our new website at
http://www.seniornet-huttcity.org.nz and of course the election of the new Committee. The resolution to change our rules to allow people to become members from the age of 50 was passed without dissent. After the formal business Grant Sidaway gave another of his enlightening and humorous talks while updating us on the SeniorNet movement and future funding opportunities.

Thank you all who turned up - it really gives support and encouragement to the committee and others who are involved in the day to day administration.

NEW PREMISES

We are delighted to advise that we have signed a lease on premises at 1st Floor, 5 Andrews Avenue (opposite the old Post Office). The premises are carpeted, modern and clean and access is by lift. Current planning is for our Technical/Administration Team to begin working on preparing the rooms in early July.

We will announce the position regarding the start of Term 3 at the AGM, by email, in this blog and by advertisement in the Hutt News. Please note that members who registered for Term 2 will be contacted personally by phone.

PREMISES UPDATE

We have been in discussions regarding premises at 1st Floor, 5 Andrews Avenue and have agreed in principle to sign a lease and now await the formal documentation. Possession would be from 1 July.

Access is by lift, the premises are carpeted, modern and clean with minimal fitting out required. There is 2-hour parking at the riverbank close by.

Once the formal document has been signed our Technical/Administration Team will begin working on preparing the premises for the commencement of Term 3. We will try our best to be in a position to re-commence on due date but this will depend on many factors.

Our Website is no longer available and you should delete the details from your Favourites. We will advise you as soon as we have established a new site. Regarding our premises, we have investigated over 20 options but have found nothing suitable as yet.
AGM - to date very few people have indicated they will be coming, so if you do intend to attend please advise us by email or phone us on 589 1556 as soon as possible.

Members Update - Newsletter, AGM and Subscriptions

PREMISES - As yet we have no new premises. We will be vacating by Friday 19th May and moving all our equipment into storage in the meantime. A special newsletter will be posted to every member this week along with the formal advice of our AGM and a subscription notice if applicable.

AGM - We will be holding our Annual General Meeting at the Avalon Pavilion on Friday 7 July at 2 PM. The guest speaker will be Telecom's SeniorNet Ambassador, Grant Sidaway.

SUBSCRIPTIONS - If you are due to pay a subscription for the 2006 - 2007 year an invoice will be included with your newsletter.

Cancellation of Term 2 Classes

As advised by email our Term 2 classes have had to be cancelled. Sadly our wonderful sponsor for the past seven years Cityline Hutt Valley now find that due to expansion they must take back the rooms for their own use.

The process of obtaining alternative premises is now underway and our requirements would seem to be - 3/4 rooms (100 m2), power supply, phone lines, toilets, parking, public transport, weekend/afterhours access, security, low rent, easy access (no stairs if possible), long term lease with right of renewal and say 3 months notice of termination. If any member can direct us to a suitable property - please contact us.

You can be assured we will update our blog on a regular basis so that members can be kept fully informed.
